  8. The WAIS (Wide Area Information Service) system is a collection of
  9. programs which provide for convenient information distribution over wide
  10. area networks. Tools for both "publishing" and accessing information
  11. sources are provided. The Simple WAIS (SWAIS) interface is a basic
  12. access tool designed for those focused on data retreival and not
  13. computer operation. It provides most of the functionality of the more
  14. complicated interfaces but features a simple and potentially more
  15. natural interface.  The functionality supported includes source
  16. selection, keyword entry, and automatic document retrieval. I hope that
  17. this tool may be of use.  Enjoy.

  19. The WAIS system is the result of a joint project between Thinking
  20. Machines, Apple Computer, and Dow Jones.  For more information on WAIS,

  22. WAIS software is available via anonymous ftp from think.com in
